Hatchet. Is there even a message?

In my class, I  read a book called Hatchet.  I have been thinking about the author's message. we had to write a reading response to the book in testing conditions. Here are my thoughts about the book.

In class, we read a book by Garry Paulsen called Hatchet. To sum up, what happened,  Brain is a 13 yr old boy whose parents were divorced. He was going on a small one-engine bush plane to go see his dad while flying the plane crashes in a lake Brian managed to survive but the pilot did not. Brian had to survive a lot of difficult things after almost 2 months of being alone without his parents and facing life-changing experiences before finally getting rescued.
I think the author's message is to never give up because regardless of brian the situation he never gave up Brian had to find food he had to survive in the Canadian forest for almost 2 months and he never gave up instead he kept trying at some point he wanted to give up he tried to end his life but never did.
To conclude I think that Garry Paulsen got a good message through and he did it well. What I really liked in this story is that Brian proved that you can do anything if you put your mind to it.

  1. Hi Emily, I agree with what you consider the main message of the novel is. Remember that basic punctuation is improtant and when you tranfer your work to your blog, ensure you still show the paragraphing I saw on the google doc :)
